Introducing Bell & Ross BR V2-94 FULL LUM

The Low-Down

When longtime friends Bruno Belamich (Bell) and Carlos Rosillo (Ross) were university mates in 1992, they got together to launch the French luxury watch brand, Bell & Ross. They quickly won over the aeronautical world with their iconic circle-in-square case designs and Swiss horological chops. Since 1992, they’ve supplied pilot’s watches to the French Air Force and are the official watch supplier to the French space program.

As a professional pilot’s watch, the Bell & Ross models had to deliver on some very important functionality. Their distinct skill with dial legibility is the result of paying close attention to the needs of a military pilot performing synchronized maneuvers and relying on a quick glance for time-keeping and calculations. The LUM line was introduced in 2017 with fully luminescent dial for low-light and night situations.

The FULL LUM nomenclature means that the entire dial is luminescent. Bell & Ross created the paint for their dial from two different Super-LumiNova colors from a full spectrum of available colors. A pale green Super-LumiNova C5 is used to coat the entire metal dial for maximum illumination, while the counter subdial, numerals, hands and indexes are a pale yellow Super-LumiNova C3.

The pale green as seen in daylight transitions to a brilliant fluorescent green in the dark. The 30-minute counter and chronograph seconds hands have their own color scheme of fluorescent blue to enhance at-a-glance legibility for measuring elapsed time. Each element has a border with black paint for easy readability day or night.

The dial was designed for a quick recharge with a sturdy brightness charge and discharge cycle to ensure long life without loss of luminescent qualities.

IMHO

This is a dope watch for all low light conditions, but also a stylish accessory for frequent clubber.

The BR V2-94 FULL LUM has a 41mm satin-finished and polished steel case that provides a contrast with the black anodized aluminum bezel. The 60-minute fixed scale in silver ties the case and bezel together for a great contrast with the luminescent surface of the dial. The sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective coating and an ultra domed shape for staying true to the vintage vibes of the BR V2-94 series.

B&R Full Lume

Bell & Ross brings the features of their LUM line technology with a 30-minute chronograph complication, central chronograph seconds and a date display. The chronograph pushers are screwed down to avoid accidental activation and have an industrial aesthetic that adds personality to the piece.

The black rubber strap is a basket weave known as “tropic” for resilient comfort under any conditions. It gives this contemporary timepiece its vintage flair while tying in the black color of the bezel and detail on the dial.

The retro-inspired Bell & Ross BR V2-04 FULL LUM will be limited to only 250 pieces. It’s a great professional watch and a must-have for those who depend on easy legibility in any day or night environment.
