Introducing the Casio G-SHOCK Full Metal-Clad GMW-B5000 in Red

Casio’s iconic G-SHOCK is a watch that has seen more versions, iterations and limited editions than practically any other watch in existence. The indestructible digital watch is a versatile, powerful platform for customisation. But back in 2018, the watch received an upgrade that had everyone paying attention. I am talking, of course, about the first wave of Full Metal-Clad models.

Now it’s 2021, and full metal jackets are a way of life for G-SHOCK, adding even more durability and some up-market appeal to the famous square watch. This time around, the GMW-B5000RD-4DR adds something a little bolder to the palette. As you can’t help but have noticed, this watch boasts a rich red ion-plated case. It’s not the red of a fire engine but instead has a slightly purple, cherry-like flavour to it. Combine this colour with the 43.2mm wide case, and you’ve got a G-SHOCK that does more than stand out — it dominates the room. This is probably a good thing, and it’s a fun, characterful release timed in perfectly with the lunar new year.

Inside the watch is just as smart as out. As you might expect from a current-generation G-SHOCK, it’s powered by the brand’s Connected Engine, which can be paired either to radio waves or a smartphone to automatically adjust to the correct timezone. The G-SHOCK Connected app is an especially handy tool for managing some of the other functions of this feature rich watch.

Being a G-SHOCK it’s also proven to be tough, rated to 200m of water resistance, and with a legible backlight. The construction also utilises a shock-resistant resin structure underneath the metal shell.

So, if you’re looking for something fun that’s up for a challenge, and red is your colour. The Casio G-SHOCK Full Metal-Clad GMW-B5000 in red could be for you.
