Launched in 2012, the Tudor Heritage Black Bay was the centrepiece of the brand's relaunch. Tudor made a clever move to built upon the success of its original diver’s watches and created a modern diver’s watch, built on vintage traditions, design, and aesthetics. With its close relations to Rolex, the Tudor Black Bay bears some elements of the Rolex Submariner but also took inspiration from all of Tudor's vintage diver’s watches.

The dial and bezel are taken from the first series of Submariners from the 1950s, and the snowflake hands are from the second generation Submariners produced in the 1970s. Another vintage element is the rose Tudor logo on the dial which allows collector to identify the watch as a first series Tudor Black Bay featuring an ETA movement, just as the brand did in its early days, before the brand switched to an in-house movement in 2016 and started using their shield logo on the dial.

The Black Bay 79220 was available in three colors, red, black and blue, with the only differend between them being the bezel color.
